Description:
The National African American Tobacco Education Network (NAATEN) is a network of African American organizations (Stakeholders) that are committed to tobacco control leadership as an organization and their constituents through establishing or augmenting tobacco prevention and control policies and activities.
Mission:
To serve as a leader and unified voice on a national level and engage African American/ Black organizations, state tobacco control programs and local coalitions in preventing and eliminating tobacco use through target population expertise, training, resource/materials development and technical assistance.
Priority Initiatives:

Leadership/Advocacy: Train leaders in the tobacco control advocacy, especially youth.

Faith-based: Train health ministers in the African American church on tobacco control/prevention and adoption of smoke-free policies.

Clinical: Train healthcare providers on cultural competency and implications regarding full integration of brief tobacco use counseling into their practice with their African American patients.

Cessation: Assess quit line data, protocols and marketing strategies and offer recommendations for increasing reach and utilization of phone support cessation among African Americans.

Technical Assistance: Provide technical assistance to national organizations and state tobacco control programs on effective population and community based initiatives aimed at reducing tobacco related health disparity tailored for African Americans.
