Accomplishments
Founded in 1994, APPEAL (the organization) has established itself as the only national AA & NHPI network providing key technical assistance and resources on tobacco control. APPEAL's accomplishments include:

Developed innovative community models on capacity building, leadership development, and advocacy.

Launched statewide leadership programs in Minnesota, Ohio, and Washington.

Trained more than 500 priority population leaders from across the U.S. and Pacific Islands to conduct tobacco control activities in their communities.

Conducted more than 250 capacity building trainings with organizations throughout the U.S. and Pacific and provided comprehensive technical assistance and training to local advocates and community based organizations.

Published educational kits on parity and AAPI tobacco control issues, including making tobacco relevant to AAPI communities; needs assessment; program evaluation; cultural competency; cessation; and mobilizing youth against tobacco.
The APPEAL PROMISE Network was awarded funding in July 2008 and has accomplished the following activities since its inception:
- Convened cessation experts in the Asian American community to identify promising practices, devise strategies on sustaining cessation services in the Asian American community, and discuss policy recommendations for cessation services in both clinic and non-clinic Asian American organizations
- Established 6 Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AA & NHPI) Subcommittees on cessation, parity, policy, research, tobacco industry, and youth
- Collaborated with the National Networks Consortium supporting efforts on tobacco control for priority populations
- Facilitated the development of and currently manages the central National Networks Consortium website
