States' Tobacco Disparities Plans

As part of its mission to reduce tobacco-related disease and preventable death, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) created the National Tobacco Control Program (NTCP) in 1999. The goal of the NTCP is to reduce tobacco-related disease, disability, and death. This goal is subdivided into four goal areas:

1. Prevent initiation of tobacco use among youth
2. Promote cessation among youth and adults
3. Protect the public from exposure to secondhand smoke
4. Identify and eliminate tobacco disparities in tobacco use among population groups

In 2001, various state tobacco control programs received federal funding from the CDC to develop a strategic plan, with regard to the fourth goal area of the NTCP for identifying and eliminating tobacco-related disparities.

Below are the State Tobacco Disparities Plans that have been submitted to the National Networks website (please note that the National Networks have not evaluated the State Tobacco Disparities Plans listed below):

The National Networks for Tobacco Control and Prevention continues to welcome submissions of State Tobacco Disparity Plans. If you are a  State Health Department Tobacco Control Program and interested in submitting your state's plan, please contact info@tobaccopreventionnetworks.org
